Attention, current and future model submitters!

We now have a new downloadable tool to help with checking the quality of models, created by myself. By downloading this tool and giving it your model files, it can detect some of the basic problems that cause models to be slowed down or even rejected. Whether you've submitted hundreds of models before or have only submitted a few, this tool should be very helpful.

You can download the tool from its download page. If you received the tool from me over Discord or through private messages, please download it again, as the tool has been updated. Be sure to check the download page every once in a while to see if it has been updated.

As with any new program, there may be bugs. If you find a model that causes the program to crash, freeze, or give a false positive, please let me know.

Related to this, I have an important request for everyone with pending submissions. As you know, we are very far behind with submissions (5200+ at this moment). Small model problems such as texture paths can make the approval process take much longer, putting us further behind. Because of this, we ask that everyone please download the tool and use it to check all of your submissions. Yes, it will take time and might be tedious. However, every little problem that you can find and fix yourself will help us get caught up faster. We would greatly appreciate your time and cooperation.

Thank you.

I didn’t think models would be so hard to upload. I’m not blaming anyone for it, I’m just surprised.

We get the occasional takedown request (you can see the list on the forum) but so far, no formal DMCA notices. We have it in the FAQ that we will remove copyrighted IPs on request of their owners via email but those emails have been fairly rare.

Is this site at risk for DMCAs? Have you guys ever dealt with anything like that?

Thanks, issue resolved for my submissions! I will now submit as I get along with the game's models!

You don't have to have a .dae file. You only have to have a .dae if your model has bones/bone weights.

I am trying to get to submit a model but with the 4th submission checkbox, we can't submit our zip with textures and a .obj file. I have this problem
edit: this isn't a request, it is a submission problem, it tells me to put a .DAE file in, so what should I do without having a .DAE in my zips?

Is it possible for the community to help at all when it comes to submissions? I know its a "ballsy" move but this site has grown so much over the years and from what I can see you guys have a small staff team.

@SteamyJ We've considered similar options before. Of course, anyone who renders models would have to be able to open the model correctly, which means things like fixing broken texture paths. At that point, the person is doing most of the review process already.

@squidiskool If the model doesn't have any rigging... then you don't need to worry about rigging.

What would I do if the model is not even a rig?

Maybe it could be someone's job just to make the icons? That seems simple enough to train someone to do.

@Fawfulthegreat64 The model must either have working rigging or no rigging. We won't accept a broken model. Though, as I said before, you can explicitly ask us to leave out the DAE if it is broken.

@Fawfulthegreat64 Go to Pose mode, grab the root bone (or bones), and drag it around. The bad verts are the ones that don't move. Hopefully it works.

Ah so I guess that means even if the rig seems fine to me it can't even be an optional part of the ZIP if the detector says things about it? I'm very particular about having rigs, for characters at least because character models tend to need them for me to get significant use out of them. I haven't seen anything that looks off when posing the model in question in Blender.

I already include an OBJ by default anyways.

The biggest reason is probably that all of us are busy with real life stuff most of the time. I have a full time job that usually leaves me too tired to do anything during the weekdays. The other big reason is that it is much faster for a bunch of people to upload models (especially without icons) than it is for us to review them. I've put nearly all of my art, games, and other projects aside to focus on the queue during my free time, but it is still not enough.

Dang. I did the math and assuming they all took 15 min, it would be 1,375 hours just to catch up! Whoa!

Did the backlog grow so huge for any particular reason?

@Fawfulthegreat64 If you have a rigged model that isn't being converted correctly, it is okay to submit it as just an OBJ and/or an unrigged DAE. After all, a boneless model is better than none at all. However, if it is submitted as a broken rigged model, we will reject it unless you explicitly tell us that it is okay to leave out the rigged DAE if broken.

@SteamyJ Approving a model can take anywhere from 15 seconds (for a basic flawless OBJ with no complex textures) to 15+ minutes (for a large and complex rigged DAE with broken texture paths, no icons, textures that need to be split, and additional research to properly rename/categorize). Now, multiply that by 5500, plus an extra 20% for submissions that contain more than one model file. That is how much work we have in the queue this very moment.

Out of curiosity, how long does it take to approve a model from sitting down to do it to it appearing on the site?

For me, if I export .dae with default settings the textures don't load with the model :(

Might be a bug, but since I can get the textures to work with other methods, it's not a huge deal.

@Jasper7438 for dae files with blender, all you need to do is to untick the copy texture option so it loads directly the textures from the texture folder

@Fawfulthegreat64 Blender can export relative paths using .obj mtl files and fbx you can get relative paths if you change the path mode from auto to relative in the export settings.
For .dae files I am not really sure.. I could get it to work with models that had textures in the same folder as the model by choosing the "copy texture" option and making sure my textures in Blender had the same names as the textures in the model folder.
For .dae files with textures in multiple folders I had to resort to using noesis and editing the file paths when necessary.

As for the bad weighting thing, I hope you're able to figure out what's causing it! I got this error on one model I'm submitting and turns out the eyebrows had no weights for some reason lol, I would've had no idea if the checker didn't tell me

@BestBowserFan4 In addition to what SteamyJ said, which you really should take to heart, what are you even talking about? You submitted a single model in May which was rejected in July. You have had literally zero activity outside of that, barring comments (most of which have been complaining about it) and there has not been a single mention of that rejection (except from you) since it happened.

You received a PM explaining why it was rejected. I'd strongly suggest reviewing that and learning from your mistakes rather than continuing to spam the comments with this nonsense.
