I knew they were polygons with shared images, but I wasn't sure if they truly counted as 3d.

snes had very tiny 3D capabilities if you knew how to program it. things like the superFX chip just gave it that extra boost of power.

while I expected the Triforce to be a 3d model, I didn't know there were more 3d models in this game.
Did this game even have a dedicated sub module on the cartridge? I know some later games did, like star fox or Chrono Trigger.
