This is my favorite low poly Sonic model.

@TitoShroom The game was leaked. It wasn't released, but there are builds of it available to play.

I believe this model was made either for use in cutscenes or to be downscaled into a low-poly model for use in-game. This model was probably made sometime around mid-late 1996, as that's the timeframe when Ofer Alon's engine was dropped in favor of Christina Coffin's boss engine, where it was decided to use models instead of sprites.

EDIT: Apparently, this is an alteration of a model made when the game was still on the 32x. Likely a precursor to the Ross Harris models. The OG version can be seen here in addition to some of the 32x sprites:

I think this is the model used for Sonic Mars's sprites

I found this picture of the model from the game, and it seems to be the exact same model as this.

@Alzter this is clearly an early version of the final model. Due to the troubled development, it'd be no surprise that multiple models would've been made during said development with game design constantly changing

At first I thought there was no merit to people saying this model is fake, or at the very least not the one used in the X-treme sprites, but it doesn't seem to match up with this image of the official model much at all:

Wait...he's the real Chris Senn or the fake Chris Senn?

@Doc von Schmeltwick This is definitely not the model used to create the sprites. It's noticeably rougher, with sharper edges and simpler geometry.

Well i would think that this model was either a place holder or a low poly model like sm64

even in 2000 era standards i'd say this is a great model (obviously, it was not used for the actual game because it would be laggy/not work ever)

@GameJosh Where are you getting that "from the cutscenes" information? From what I understand, this was just the base for the prerendered sprites; if they had the model in the game itself for any purpose, surely they'd have used it for the levels instead?

Suppose it might have put strain on the system to do so, but Sonic R was certainly fine with models....

@SONICKABOOM This was made around 1995-1996 and was going to be used in the cutscenes, by those standards it looked very good back then.

Oh wow, Chris Senn himself submitted this. Good to finally see it here, though I still wish we could somehow get our hands on the other model used for Sonic X-Treme and Sonic Schoolhouse's sprites.
