OK, LOGIC TIME...
This game, Super Smash Bros Brawl was released in mid 2008, as a game on the Nintendo Wii. That's before 2009's Sonic and the Black Knight and 2010's Sonic Colors. And they're both Wii games.
This game came after 2007's Sonic and the Secret Rings. Which is also a Wii game. And that's the first SEGA Wii game to ever exist. So DUH, they had to use Secret Rings models since there was no other Wii game after that.

@Random Talking Bush: I think its the secret rings model because the textures are nearly identical to that one.

@IsaacDavid: Actually, I think this one's based off the model from Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, so technically it's still Sega's model.
