The "platinum patch" was never released, so we will never know. The Japanese version of the game uses more of the older models from Pokémon Stadium though.

I would say that Blender's "user-friendliness" has improved quite a bit from the Blender Render days and 2.7 days when I started using it. If I could learn how to use it then, I believe you could learn now even faster! To me, Maya looks similarly 'impossible' but that is because I haven't really used it before.

Out of curiosity, is the japanese platinum patch much different in terms of model files( like compression/encryption) compared to the international version? Afaik it only really added the new formes of rotom and giratina, and maybe Lucas' and Dawn's platinum outfits to the game.

The rest of us have to wait in the queue. Expect to wait at least couple months for them to be looked over [they may be pushed up the model queue due to game popularity]. It is what it is, after all there are 1000+ models in the queue right now.
