@Jasper - Absolutely amazing setup, I was wondering how to get the fur normal map on specific areas on the body and this is perfect, thank you so much! The fur card image also answers what the opacity texture included was for, I was wondering what that texture was used for for the longest time... I attempted the POM with the fur, as well as the coloration with the fur on the body with the main fur by using these free nodes and some of Jasper's setup. I set up the model like this, which ended up having the model look like this. NOTE: Bring the roughness up to 0.9 on the Principled BSDF, that makes it look a lot less glossy. (Do note I'm only doing the fur here, all the other parts are hidden). Also, adjust the vibrance on HSV value from after the alb and ao mixer if you want to change the brightness of the main body. I can't really get the softness/weird lines on the outmost layer of the fur, but I'm kinda new/blender doesn't have an official POM node so I kinda just have to go with this. I also don't know exactly how I'd do the fur cards too, and that seems especially painful with how it works in-game. Someone feel free to one-up me though. Edit 3: This should be a lot less intensive and much more accurate to the fur scale. |

Correction regarding Mario and Luigi's models between SM64DS and NSMB: They ARE different, both the textures and the models themselves for that matter. SM64DS uses lower poly models in-game compared to the models used in NSMB for Big Mario and Luigi, though there is a Mini-Game specific model for Mario in SM64DS' files that's higher poly, the in-game models are a fair bit different from NSMB and Luigi has a more major difference regarding his body texture's arrangement between the games. Yoshi's model that's submitted here is also not his in-game model either, it's his Mini-Game model as well, his actual in-game model comes with more eye textures, has different mappings for his textures, has a "full mouth" head and rigged jaw and tongue for his regular head, and also has alternate color schemes for Vs. Mode included in his palette. I plan to submit some revisions/uploads for the correct models for everything when I find the time, it's not too hard now with SM64DSE being able to access the game's files a bit more in-depth, though I figured I'd write this here since some were misinformed about SM64DS' models. |

I can set up the body material, but I don't really know how to do the RFT mapping. Here is the basic body material setup. It looks like the textured fur uses a parallax effect, which gives it a layered 3D look. I haven't tried to figure that out yet. As for the fuzz around the model, it looks like fur cards are used on every edge of the model. A texture or vertex color is used to limit where the fur is. The fur is only around the edges of the model from where you're facing it. This probably easy to do in blender, but I don't know how to use particle systems that well... |

Yeah, that's definitely a decent way to do it in Blender. I cut out the spots using Blender's knife tool since unfortunately an alpha mask wouldn't work for what I'm doing, but for general posing/animating that'd definitely be more than satisfactory. Also, it seems like the gradient (RFT texture) slowly rotates as it scrolls through, which is gonna be a pain to do in a game that doesn't support texture rotation... The map "Monster Bash" has a ton of these things in the out of bounds area to make an illusion of a mob near the castle doors. Pretty neat use of them. |
