I never actually noticed that you go out a side exit in the collapsing castle rather than the front one until many years later... You can see the protruding part of the "arena" facing right instead of south.

It's common practice not to model details of a character that are never seen by the player. You never see this person's lower half, so the developers didn't model it. It would just be extra work for no reason.
