Are the models for the base characters (e.g. Mario without a costume) reused from another Mario Kart game or are they completely different?

The first thwomp is the normal one and the second one is the star thwomp (he has purple eyes and is a bit darker). If you wanna make the real star thwomp, you will have to make scrolling textures, light mapping... But I can't help you here bc I don't know how to do that
