The Cutscene models are actually mostly the same as the in-game ones aside from the lack of mouths and eyelids, though the in-game Dreamcast model for Sonic suffers from the UV mapping of the muzzle being upside down compared to the Cutscenes as one of the few minor differences.
Interesting fact: Sonic's ears are supposed to be pointy with Shadow's ears being round, but in Battle they subdivided them making them both round.
Oh yeah; and the Cutscene models have different versions of the head pieces for each of them, so they have different shape keys for each cutscene.

of course? why would they have higher poly models with mouths in gameplay when they're not even needed, and cause more performance issues
